About CEIDC

In 1995, the voters of Crockett approved a one-half percent sales tax earmarked to promote economic growth in the area. CEIDC was created to administer and oversee the expenditure of those funds. The funds are used to offer attractive incentive packages to qualified businesses interested in locating or expanding an operation in Houston County.

Working with Federal, State, and local agencies has allowed Houston County to take an aggressive approach in creating a competitive business environment, resulting in average operating costs lower than other markets. Business development receives full support from the Crockett Economic and Industrial Development Corporation, which strives to collaborate with the Grapeland EDC, Crockett Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Grapeland Chamber of Commerce.

CEIDC is a 4A Sales Tax Coproration. As such, the activities of CEIDC are governed by Texas State Law as it pertains to such corporations. The Office of the Attorney General produces a handbook - Economic Development Handbook for Texas Cities (2008) - which provides detailed information on how 4A corporations are established and operate.

CEIDC has the power to:

  • Offer aggressive Incentive Packages to attract new businesses to Crockett
  • Negotiate with the local, state, and federal governments to provide financial assistance to your company
  • Submit tax abatement applications to the city and county to reduce your initial investment in establishing a facility in the area

This website has been developed to provide a wealth of information about CEIDC and the communities we serve. If your question is not answered here, please contact CEIDC at (936) 546-5636.
